NYC tap water- bottle it!

For years I’ve thought that bottled water was an idiotic product. Shipping a heavy liquid across the world, putting it into non-biodegradable plastic bottles and selling it to a public that can’t tell the difference between “natural artesian water” and city of Las Vegas tap water just doesn’t pass the common sense test, and highlights some of the worst characteristics of consumer behavior.

Still, I occasionally buy a bottle of water if I’m out and about and not near either of New York’s public water fountains.  It seems that cheap, easily available and portable bottles of water do fill at least one legitimate need.  At least for someone like me who is unwilling to carry a bottle everywhere I go.

Tap’dNY (“Bottled water without the funny accent”) is a startup that recognizes this need, and unapologetically bottles and sells New York City tap water to New Yorkers.  This greatly reduces the transportation cost and pressures on remote water systems and maximizes use of water that NYC invests a lot of money to ensure is clean, healthy and tasty.

As an extra bonus, New York City tap water consistently beats expensive bottled water in taste and purity tests, meaning Tap’dNY is a much better product, too!
